Frequently Asked Questions

What is Balance Method Acupuncture

Balance Method is still Acupuncture in the classical sense.  The difference is that the Balance Method is a system of acupuncture that utilizes the connections between the meridians in the body and a technique called mirror and imaging which allows us to treat areas of your body by putting needles in opposite ends of your body. The benefit of this is that we don’t need to needle an area that is already sore.

Are the needles that you use safe?

All the needles that we use are made of surgical grade stainless steel and are individually wrapped and factory sanitized. All needles are also single use and are safely disposed after they are used so you will never have a needle re-used on you.

What do I need to know before my first appointment?

Before your appointment please eat at least 30 min to an hour before hand as this will help if you are nervous or could experience some mild nausea at the thought of needles. Also, it is a good idea to wear loose fitting clothes as this will help with accessing the points without needing to get undressed.  If you need clothing removed for better access you will be covered by a draping cloth with only the necessary area visible to give treatment

Can I claim my treatment under my extended health coverage?

Yes, Acuflow Wellness is registered with Blue Cross and Veterans Affairs along with any other company that covers acupuncture treatments. Remember to check your policy and make sure they cover acupuncture.  We do not do direct billing so you would need to submit your receipts to your provider.

Is Acupuncture safe?

One of the most intriguing reasons people consider acupuncture is the lack of side effects that commonly come with pharmaceutical medications.  While this is true, it does not mean acupuncture is completely risk free when it comes to side effects.  Some of the most common side effects people experience are nausea and fainting or possible light bruising. While most of the time these issues come down to the specific patient and their predisposition to dizziness or bruising these risks can be minimized by finding a qualified and trained acupuncturist that you feel comfortable with.

What can I expect at my first treatment?

First we will sit down with you and you will have the opportunity to explain the history of your condition and how it is affecting your life. We will ask questions related to your issue and lifestyle and work with you to figure out a symptomology and pattern of illness. At this point we will discuss a treatment plan and how I would like to address your concerns and if you agree to the plan we will move on to the treatment. It would consist of us placing the needles and then letting you rest with the needles in for 30 min. We will check on you throughout the 30 minutes, but most patients find this a good time to close their eyes and have a nap. After which, I will remove the needles and check on how everything went at which point your treatment is done.

How many treatments are necessary?

This depends on what we are treating since some complicated issues will need more treatments than a simple issue. A general round of treatments is 6-10 sessions and some people require a couple rounds of treatment and others could be only 2 or 3 sessions. This would be something that we discuss at the first treatment.

What are your qualifications?

I (Adam Slamang) graduated from PCU College of Holistic Medicine in Burnaby BC in 2018, Through 2019 I trained and graduated from the full Balance Method Certificate program at Langara University In Vancouver BC. I am a licensed member of the CTCMPAO (College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario) and I am an active member of the Association of Registered Acupuncturists of Prince Edward Island.

For many years I have suffered with pain in various areas of my body. I have tried many conventional and non-conventional methods to help but nothing seemed to last or make marked improvements .

Last fall I came across Adam’s message that he was coming to P.E.I. I listen and was excited to see if this time I might find something that would work for me.

Adam was very welcoming and was able to explain his method of treatment to me in a way I understood. Adam is very easy to talk with and is willing to listen to all my crazy symptoms. During treatment Adam is very engaged and explains everything he’s doing and why he is doing it. I’ve learned so much about my personal energy and how it affects me.

I’ve tried acupuncture many times but Adam’s approach is the only one that has had success for me and my pain. I am not pain-free yet but the improvements I have experience thus far have been incredible. I look forward to continuing treatment with Adam improve my overall well-being.

Anyone struggling to manage pain, or any other health issues should reach out to Adam, you will not be disappointed.
